Hypixel SkyBlock 0.20.9 - Crimson Isle QoL

Updated: 2024/December 3

Greetings, folks!

Welcome to Hypixel SkyBlock 0.20.9. Today we're kick-starting the holiday season with a small update to the Crimson Isle. Read on to find out what's in store!

► Kuudra Armor Changes[]

➥ General Changes[]

All Kuudra Armor now has a combat requirement and Kuudra Tier completion requirement, as follows:

  • Basic: Combat 22, Basic Tier Kuudra Clear
  • Hot: Combat 27, Hot Tier Kuudra Clear
  • Burning: Combat 32, Burning Tier Kuudra Clear
  • Fiery: Combat 37, Fiery Tier Kuudra Clear
  • Infernal: Combat 42, Infernal Tier Kuudra Clear

➥ Crimson Armor[]

While Crimson Armor's Swipe ability still remains, many facets of said ability have been changed:

Dominus Stacks and Stack Gain

  • Instead of gaining stacks on kills, you now gain stacks on melee hits.
  • Magic Damage no longer interact with gaining Dominus stacks nor does it proc the Swipe ability.
  • The stack gain cooldown scales based on the amount of Crimson Armor pieces you're wearing, as follows:
    • 2 Pieces: 1.5s
    • 3 Pieces: 1s
    • 4 Pieces: 0.5s
  • Depending on your lowest tier of Crimson Armor, you gain stats based on how many stacks you have active:
    • Basic: 0.05 Swing Range
    • Hot: 0.1 Swing Range
    • Burning: 0.1 Swing Range + 1 Ferocity
    • Fiery: 0.1 Swing Range + 2 Ferocity
    • Infernal: 0.1 Swing Range + 2 Ferocity + 10 Additive Damage

Swipe Ability and Functionality

  • The damage calculation of Swipe has been overhauled.
    • In most cases, the swipe damage is 15-25% of your melee hit.
  • Swipe deals double damage the first time it swipes a mob.
  • Swipe can trigger multiple times on the same mob.
  • Swipe no longer can duplicate Combat XP on kill (kill duping).
  • Swipe Damage is dependent on both the number of Crimson Armor pieces and the lowest tier of Crimson Armor that you're wearing. This damage increase is reflected as a multiplier, as follows:
Crimson Infernal Fiery Burning Hot Basic
4/4 3 2.625 2.25 1.875 1.5
3/4 2 1.75 1.5 1.25 1
2/4 1 0.875 0.75 0.625 0.5

These changes allow Crimson Armor to provide more consistent damage output when fighting any mob and gives players an incentive to upgrade their Crimson Armor for increased damage scaling. The reduced damage scaling also helps with future-proofing the armor set for when we make combat content in the future.

Related Changes

Some changes have been implemented to retain some of Crimson Armor's current use cases:

  • Blaze Slayer
    • Adjusted the health and Combat EXP for Blaze Slayer mobs:
      • Smoldering Blaze: 4m → 2m HP, 240 → 320 Combat EXP (1.33x)
      • Millennia Blaze: 20m HP → 12m HP, 660 → 960 Combat EXP (1.45x)
    • Reduced the HP of Infernal Demonlord slayer mini-bosses:
      • Tier 3: 12,000,000 → 9,000,000
      • Tier 4: 25,000,000 → 17,500,000, 75,000,000 → 50,000,000
    • Reduced the damage of the minibosses by ~25%.
    • The kill requirement for T3 and T4 Infernal Demonlord has been reduced by 25%.
      • The numbers have been adjusted post-alpha, taking into account the 45 Combat Wisdom available from Slayer Weapons.
  • Enderman Slayer
    • Increased the base damage of Enderman Katanas by ~25%.
    • Increased the crit damage of Enderman Katanas by 5 - 20%.
    • Slightly increased the delay of the Voidgloom Seraph going into hits phase.
    • Slightly reduced the duration of Voidgloom Seraph's beams phase.

To compensate for the removal of "kill duping" and to give players an incentive to use a melee set, we've implemented the following changes:

  • Slayer Weapons now have conditional Combat Wisdom for their respective mobs, ranging from 15 - 45 Combat Wisdom.
  • The maximum amount of progress that a kill can contribute towards your Slayer Quest has been raised from 50% to 75%.
    • The Combat XP from certain slayer bosses, minibosses, and related mobs have been slightly adjusted to prevent slayer trading from being overpowered.

Lastly, the following fixes relating to slayer phase-bypassing exploits have been implemented:

  • The "Fire Dagger" line's Burning Vengeance ability now has a damage cap of 50,000,000.
  • End Stone Sword's Extreme Focus ability now has a damage boost cap of 500% and a revamped ability description.

➥ Terror Armor[]

Terror Armor's ability functionality has remained largely the same, with some minor damage adjustments.

Hydra Stacks and Stack Gain

  • The stack gain cooldown (0.2) is consistent regardless of how many Terror Armor pieces you're wearing.
  • The damage boost per Hydra Stack is dependent on both the number of Terror Armor pieces and the lowest tier of Terror Armor that you're wearing, as follows:
Terror Infernal Fiery Burning Hot Basic
4/4 15 12.75 10.5 8.25 6
3/4 10 8.5 7.0 5.5 4
2/4 5 4.25 3.5 2.75 2
  • Depending on your lowest tier of Terror Armor, you gain arrow speed and side arrow damage based on how many stacks you have active:
    • Basic: +1% Arrow Speed, 20 Side Arrow Damage
    • Hot: +1.5% Arrow Speed, 30% Side Arrow Damage
    • Burning: +2% Arrow Speed, 40% Side Arrow Damage
    • Fiery: +2.5% Arrow Speed, 50% Side Arrow Damage
    • Infernal: +3% Arrow Speed, 60% Side Arrow Damage

Related Changes

Some adjustments have been made to Kuudra as a result of the Terror Armor adjustments:

  • Decreased the amount of hits required for Kuudra’s hit phase by 20%.
  • Decreased the amount of damage required to kill Kuudra final phase by 25%.

➥ Aurora Armor[]

Aurora Armor has a brand-new ability in Homing Missiles, providing you with a slight damage bonus in most situations.

Arcane Energy Stacks and Stack Gain

  • The stack gain cooldown scales based on the amount of Aurora Armor pieces you're wearing, as follows:
    • 2 Pieces: 1s
    • 3 Pieces: 0.7s
    • 4 Pieces: 0.5s

Homing Missile Ability and Functionality

  • At 10 stacks, you can sneak to activate the homing missile ability, firing 3-5 missiles to targets near you.
  • The number of missiles fired depends on the tier of Aurora Armor, as follows:
    • Basic: 3
    • Hot, Burning: 4
    • Fiery, Infernal: 5
  • The base damage of the missiles is 5000.
  • The damage from Homing Missiles are considered Magic Damage and has a scaling of 0.3.
    • The damage scales with your usual Mage stats of Intelligence and Ability Damage.
  • The missiles can only hit a singular target. It does not deal splash damage.

This set ability provides a decent DPS boost to players not using Wither Impact. For those that are, the damage increase is much less significant. This is intended design-wise as Wither Impact does not need help at the present time.

Related Changes

  • Aurora Helmet now has Ability Damage that scales throughout armor tier, making it an expensive yet better option than Wither Goggles.

➥ Fervor Armor[]

Fervor Armor gains a new ability in Ground Pound, allowing tank builds to deal damage while building for tankiness.

Fervor Stacks and Stack Gain

  • The stack gain cooldown scales based on the amount of Fervor Armor pieces you're wearing, as follows:
    • 2 Pieces: 1.5s
    • 3 Pieces: 1s
    • 4 Pieces: 0.5s

Ground Pound Ability and Functionality

At 10 stacks, you can sneak to activate the Ground Pound ability, allowing you to leap into the air and quickly slam back to deal damage to nearby enemies. This damage scales off of your EHP (Defense and HP). The damage currently does not scale based off of your armor tier as you naturally have higher stats at higher armor tiers, thus dealing more damage.

Intimidate In addition to Ground Pound, Fervor Armor has a bonus passive (Intimidate) that has a 50% chance to redirect aggro of 3 nearby mobs to the player on melee hit.

➥ Hollow Armor[]

The abilities of Hollow Wand have been reworked to be more relevant as a support build.

Spirit Stacks and Stack Gain

  • Hollow Armor gains Spirit Stacks both from you hitting a mob, and up to 4 nearby players hitting a mob in a 25 block radius.
  • The stack gain cooldown is individual to each nearby player - if you and 4 people hit a mob within a second, you should gain 5 stacks.
  • The stack gain cooldown scales based on the amount of Hollow Armor pieces you're wearing, as follows:
    • 2 Pieces: 3s
    • 3 Pieces: 2s
    • 4 Pieces: 1s

Hollow Wand Ability Changes

Spirit Spark [✤✤] - 10 Spirit | Heal yourself + all nearby players for 8% max HP.

Hollowed Rush [✦✦] - 15 Spirit | Grant all nearby players 1.3x Mana Regeneration for 6s.

Raging Wind [✦✤] - 20 Spirit | Grant all nearby players +30% Damage and +10 Ferocity for 20s. Stacks up to 3 times.

Ichor Pool [✤✦] - 30 Spirit | Spawn a pool with ~10 block radius. Any player standing within this pool gains 1.2x Damage and +40 Ferocity. Pool lasts for 20s.

  • Abilities do not stack unless stated in the ability description, even if activated by different players.
  • The ability casting patterns have been simplified to two inputs.
  • The hidden ability of Hollow Wand has been removed as it did not fit with the set's support theme.

► Lava Fishing Changes[]

➥ Trophy Fishing[]

Trophy Fish Chance

To allow for easier tracking of all the boosts towards catching trophy fish, Trophy Fish Chance is now a stat.

To compensate for Trophy Fish Chance now being additive (and thus losing out on ~16-20% Trophy Fish Chance), the following things received a buff to their Trophy Fish Chance:

  • Increased Trophy Fish Chance on Trophy Hunter armor set bonus, as follows:
    • Bronze: 0 → 5%
    • Silver: 5 → 10%
    • Gold: 10 → 20%
    • Diamond: 20 → 30%
  • Increased Trophy Fish Chance on Magma Rod, Inferno Rod, and Hellfire Rod, as follows:
    • Magma Rod: 10 → 15%
    • Inferno Rod: 15 → 20%
    • Hellfire Rod: 20 → 25%
  • Added Trophy Fish Chance to Odger's Teeth, as follows:
    • Bronze: 1%
    • Silver: 2%
    • Gold: 3%
    • Diamond: 4%

Trophy Fish Rate Adjustments

  • Pity now triggers at 600 catches for all fishes.
  • The catch rates of the following fish have been adjusted:
    • Vanille: 3 → 8%
    • Karate Fish: 1 → 2%
    • Slugfish: 10 → 15%
    • Blobfish: 15 → 25%
  • Golden Fish Appearance Rate: 15 to 20 minutes → 8 to 12 minutes

Design Notes

  • The Blobfish change aims to make it roll last, preventing it from blocking desired catches.
  • The Golden Fish adjustment should make it much more likely you catch its Diamond before you catch all the other fish.
  • The goal of the pity adjustment is to reduce the variance in Trophy Fishing.
  • With the adjusted rates, Trophy Fishing should be less than 100 hours total for most players.

Other Changes

  • There's now an instance-wide announcement when a player catches a Diamond Trophy Fish for the first time.
  • You can now check the amount of each tier of Trophy Fish you've caught at Odger's menu.
  • Instead of needing to salvage your Trophy Hunter armor set for the Magmafish reward, you will now be granted 20 Diamond Magmafish upon completing Diamond Trophy Hunter.
    • This reward can be retroactively claimed by anyone at Odger who has achieved Diamond Trophy Hunter.
  • The upgrade cost of Trophy Hunter armor has been standardized across all rarities.

► What's Next?[]

This update only includes some of the changes we want to do with Crimson Isle. We are fully aware that there are many aspects to the island that still need updating and will look to release more changes in the future.

Here are some quick changes we have in mind for the near future, with some changes being prioritized:

  • Rework Habanero Tactics to be useful.
  • Add a way to optionally negate your Trophy Fish Chance.
  • Make Crimson Swipe not be "magic damage"
    • This is slightly complicated to implement with our current damage system.
  • Rework Rend as the current iteration cannot be balanced.
  • Find a way to let players get the newly unsoulbound items back to let them sell their items if they so desire.

Here are some of the longer-term changes we have in mind:

  • Make the lower tiers of Kuudra more accessible to players at lower gear levels.
  • Make improvements to the reputation quest system.
  • Revamp the mechanics of Crimson Isle minibosses.

► Final Comments[]

That's all we have in store for today! While the update has now officially released, there's still room for balancing changes relating to changes this release. Feedback from the last Alpha thread has been instrumental to polishing the update and ironing out issues. Your efforts are greatly appreciated by our team, and we hope to see more feedback from you all in the future.
