Heart of the Mountain

The Heart of the Mountain, commonly abbreviated as HotM, is a skill tree related to  Mining.

Unlocking

Heart of the Mountain is unlocked by completing Rhys quest in the ⏣ Obsidian Sanctuary, which requires 15 of any enchanted ore.

As players level up their Heart of the Mountain, they will gain Tokens of the Mountain, which can be used to unlock various perks. Some of these perks will take effect only on public islands with new mining mechanism (alongside with infinite Mining Fatigue).

Mechanics

The menu can be accessed via the  SkyBlock Menu, while inside the ⏣ Dwarven Mines and ⏣ Crystal Hollows, via the  Mining menu, or anywhere via the /hotm command.

Players can level up their Heart of the Mountain tiers by gaining HotM experience, which can be accumulated by completing Commissions, participating in various active mining events and completing Crystal Nucleus runs.

Each Commission completed in the ⏣ Dwarven Mines or ⏣ Crystal Hollows gives up to 400 Heart of the Mountain experience, while Commissions completed in the ⏣ Glacite Tunnels give 750 Heart of the Mountain experience.

At Heart of the Mountain Tiers 1 and 2, experience from ⏣ Dwarven Mines commissions is 100 and 200 each, respectively, while at Tier 3 it becomes 400, matching ⏣ Crystal Hollows.

Players receive additional 900 Heart of the Mountain experience for the first four Commissions of each day, if the Heart of the Mountain tier is below 10. Otherwise players earn an additional 1,600 ᠅ Mithril Powder, 3,200 ᠅ Gemstone Powder or 4,000 ᠅ Glacite Powder instead, depending on the area.

The Heart of the Mountain can be reset. This wipes all of the Heart of the Mountain upgrades and returns all spent ᠅ Mithril Powder, ᠅ Gemstone Powder, ᠅ Glacite Powder and Tokens of the Mountain. HotM tier and Peak of the Mountain levels are kept; thus powder spent on upgrading Peak of the Mountain is not reimbursed.

The first reset is free, but each subsequent reset costs 100,000 coins.

Abilities

Heart of the Mountain Tiers 2, 6, and 10 offer 2 Pickaxe Abilities each, for a total of 6. They can all be unlocked on the tree at once, but only one can be selected at a time. They are activated with RIGHT CLICK, and have either an instant effect or a period of effect.

They have a cooldown, which starts immediately upon activation, not at the point of the ability's conclusion. The player must wait for the cooldown to expire before being able to use any other pickaxe ability. The cooldown is preserved across lobbies, and set to zero when entering a Glacite Mineshaft.

Pickaxe Abilities cannot be upgraded with powder, but they can be upgraded by unlocking Peak of the Mountain and with  Blue Cheese Goblin Omelettes.

Mining Speed Boost is available upon reaching Heart of the Mountain Tier 2, however, it requires 3 Token of the Mountain to unlock, therefore it cannot be unlocked until Heart of the Mountain Tier 3.

Pickobulus is available upon reaching Heart of the Mountain Tier 2, however, it requires 3 Token of the Mountain to unlock, therefore it cannot be unlocked until Heart of the Mountain Tier 3.

Throw your pickaxe to create an explosion on impact, mining all ores within a 3 block radius.

Precision Mining

Trivia

• Reaching Heart of the Mountain Tier 5 will reward the player with the "Peak of the Mountain" Achievement.
• 2x Powder events also double Powder obtained from the Daily Powder perk, even though the message does not reflect this.
  • This is now affected by the powder buff.
• If multiple pickaxe abilities are unlocked, one must be selected in order to be used. However players are able to switch an ability while another is under effect, leading to multiple being active at the same time.
• All Heart of the Mountain tier 7 perks cost the same amount of ᠅ Gemstone Powder.
• Despite being impossible to get every single perk in Heart of the Mountain, if one were to get all of them and max each one out (including Peak of the Mountain), it would cost 16,384,458 ᠅ Mithril Powder, 24,790,045 ᠅ Gemstone Powder and 24,135,070 ᠅ Glacite Powder as well as 45 Tokens of the Mountain.
• The Fortunate perk costs Mithril Powder to upgrade unlike the other perks in HotM 6.
• The Heart of the Mountain is a reference to the Arkenstone from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit.
  • The Arkenstone is the biggest and rarest gemstone in the Lonely Mountain, and valued most by the Dwarves.
• Lonesome Miner's perk also affects Legion,  Superior Dragon Armor,  Ender Dragon Pets and any other items that affects the buffed stats.
• Mole and Efficient Miner do not trigger within protected structures in the ⏣ Crystal Hollows.
  • This includes structures that house Gemstone Crystals, and some generated structures.
• It is not possible to reset the Heart of the Mountain if the only unlocked perk is Mining Speed. Unlocking another perk will allow the player to reset it.
• The Sky Mall perk "Gain 15% powder while mining" does not buff powder gain from chests.
• Powder buff from Pets and Holding items are additive, but the one from  King Talisman is multiplicative.
• The Maniac Miner perk is based on a team upgrade in Hypixel Bed Wars, which grants Haste 1 and 2.
