Heart of the Mountain

The Heart of the Mountain, commonly abbreviated as HotM, is a skill tree related to Mining.

As players level up their Heart of the Mountain, they will gain Tokens of the Mountain, which can be used to unlock various perks. Some of these perks will take effect only on public islands with new mining mechanism (alongside with infinite Mining Fatigue).

Heart of the Mountain

The menu can be accessed via the SkyBlock Menu, while inside the ⏣ Dwarven Mines and ⏣ Crystal Hollows, via the Mining menu, or anywhere via the /hotm command.

Players can level up their Heart of the Mountain tiers by gaining HotM experience, which can be accumulated by completing Commissions, participating in various active mining events and completing nucleus runs. Note that unlocking the whole tree at the same time is not possible, due to the insufficient amount of available Tokens of the Mountain.

Each Commission completed in the ⏣ Dwarven Mines or ⏣ Crystal Hollows gives up to 400 Heart of the Mountain experience, while Commissions completed in the ⏣ Glacite Tunnels give 750 Heart of the Mountain experience.

At Heart of the Mountain Tiers 1 and 2, experience from ⏣ Dwarven Mines commissions is 100 and 200 each, respectively, while at Tier 3 it becomes 400, matching ⏣ Crystal Hollows.

Players receive additional 900 Heart of the Mountain experience from completion of the first four Commissions of the day, if the Heart of the Mountain tier is below 10. Otherwise players earn an additional 1,600 ᠅ Mithril Powder, 3,200 ᠅ Gemstone Powder or 4,000 ᠅ Glacite Powder instead, depending on the area.

The Heart of the Mountain can be reset. This wipes all of the Heart of the Mountain upgrades and returns all spent ᠅ Mithril Powder, ᠅ Gemstone Powder, ᠅ Glacite Powder and Tokens of the Mountain. However HotM tier and Peak of the Mountain levels are kept; thus powder spent on upgrading Peak of the Mountain is not reimbursed.

The first reset is free, but each subsequent reset costs 100,000 coins.

Abilities[]

Heart of the Mountain Tiers 2, 6, and 10 offer 2 Pickaxe Abilities each, for a total of 6. They can all be unlocked on the tree at once, but only one can be selected at a time. They are activated with RIGHT CLICK, and have either an instant effect or a period of effect. They have a cooldown, which starts immediately upon activation, not at the point of the ability's conclusion. Each ability's cooldown is separate, so if 2 abilities are available and an ability is used, then switched by selecting it on the HotM tree, the new ability will be ready to use immediately. Switching back to the first ability, the player will have to wait for that ability's cooldown to use it again. Multiple timed effects can be active at once. Pickaxe Abilities cannot be upgraded with powder, but they can be upgraded by unlocking Peak of the Mountain Level 1 and with Blue Cheese Goblin Omelettes.

Pickobulus[]

Grants all mining tools a RIGHT CLICK ability. When the ability is used, an explosive projectile is shot. Upon impact, it mines all ores in a radius around the impact.

For the first 2,500 ores mined in a day, gives +100 ⸕ Mining Speed, +100 ☘ Mining Fortune and +2 base powder.

Requires Crystallized, Orbiter or Star Powder.

Sky Mall[]

At the beginning of each SkyBlock day, a random buff from the list below is granted (different for each player). The effects on the list occur less often the further down they are.

Requires Mining Madness.

Grants various HotM-related perks. Upgrading this perk is irreversible, thus Powder spent on upgrading the perk is not returned when resetting the HotM tree.

Increases the chance to find treasure chests while mining in Crystal Hollows.

Requires Star Powder or Fortunate.

Even though lvl 21 of great explorer states a 100% chance of finding treasure, treasure is not guaranteed 100% of the time. Lvl 20 and Lvl 21 of great explorer spawn a similar number of chests.

Vein Seeker[]

Grants all mining tools a Right Click ability. When the ability is used, points in the direction of the nearest vein from a player is pointed and gains Mining Spread.

It only points the player to Gemstones. Mining Spread is like Mole and only works on Hard Stone, and is disabled when Mole is disabled.

Tips[]

The recommended mining tools progressions are:
- HotM 1: Fractured Mithril Pickaxe or Pickonimbus 2000
- HotM 2: Bandaged Mithril Pickaxe, Mithril Pickaxe or Pickonimbus 2000
- HotM 3: Jungle Pickaxe, Titanium Pickaxe, Ruby Drill TX-15 or Pickonimbus 2000
- HotM 4: Refined Titanium Pickaxe or Gemstone Drill LT-522
- HotM 5: Titanium Drill DR-X555 for non-gemstones, but Titanium Drill DR-X355 is more cost-effective; Topaz Drill KGR-12 for gemstones, but Gemstone Drill LT-522 is more cost-effective
- HotM 6: Titanium Drill DR-X655, but Gemstone Gauntlet is more cost-effective
- HotM 7: Divan's Drill, but Gemstone Gauntlet and Titanium Drill DR-X655 are more cost-effective

The recommended mining armors progressions are:
- HotM 1 & 2: Glacite Armor
- HotM 3: Flamebreaker Armor, but Heat Armor is more cost-effective
- HotM 4 & 5: Sorrow Armor with at least Universal Slot unlocked is the best, but Yog Armor is more cost-effective
- HotM 6 & 7: Divan Armor with all slots unlocked is the best, but Sorrow Armor with at least Universal Slot unlocked is more cost effective.
Pickonimbus 2000 is highly recommended for people who just started mining Gemstones, although it cannot break Topaz (unless you have the Rhinestone Infusion perk from the Diamond Essence Shop) or Jasper.
Mithril Drill SX-R226 and Mithril Drill SX-R326 are not recommended for mining because of their high cost despite the inability to mine most types of gemstones, and their inferiority to the Titanium Drill DR-X355. However, their increased ᠅ Mithril Powder gain can be useful in deficit.
The Ruby Drill TX-15 line should be made even if it won’t be used as a mining tool, because of the eventual +20% ᠅ Gemstone Powder buff given by the Jasper Drill X.

Trivia[]

Reaching Heart of the Mountain Tier 5 will reward the player with the "Peak of the Mountain" Achievement.
2x Powder events also double Powder obtained from the Daily Powder perk, even though the message does not reflect this.
- This is now affected by the powder buff.
If multiple pickaxe abilities are unlocked, one must be selected in order to be used. However players are able to switch an ability while another is under effect, leading to multiple being active at the same time.
All Heart of the Mountain tier 7 perks cost the same amount of ᠅ Gemstone Powder.
Despite being impossible to get every single perk in Heart of the Mountain, if one were to get all of them and max each one out (including Peak of the Mountain), it would cost 16,384,458 ᠅ Mithril Powder, 24,790,045 ᠅ Gemstone Powder and 24,135,070 ᠅ Glacite Powder as well as 45 Tokens of the Mountain.
The Fortunate perk costs Mithril Powder to upgrade unlike the other perks in HotM 6.
The Heart of the Mountain is a reference to the Arkenstone from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit.
- The Arkenstone is the biggest and rarest gemstone in the Lonely Mountain, and valued most by the Dwarves.
Lonesome Miner's perk also affects Legion, Superior Dragon Armor, Ender Dragon Pets and any other items that affects the buffed stats.
Mole and Efficient Miner do not trigger within protected structures in the ⏣ Crystal Hollows.
- This includes structures that house Gemstone Crystals, and some generated structures.
It is not possible to reset the Heart of the Mountain if the only unlocked perk is Mining Speed. Unlocking another perk will allow the player to reset it.
The Sky Mall perk "Gain 15% powder while mining" does not buff powder gain from chests.
Powder buff from Pets and Holding items are additive, but the one from King Talisman is multiplicative.
The Maniac Miner perk is based on a team upgrade in Hypixel Bed Wars, which grants Haste 1 and 2.
