Welcome to the Hypixel SkyBlock Wiki's editing guide, a guide covering all topics relating to edits, and hopefully you'll be able to edit - and edit well - once you've read it.

The Basics[]

To first start editing the Hypixel SkyBlock Wiki, you'll have to create a Fandom account if you don't already have one. You can do that by clicking the REGISTER button that appears in the top-right hand corner, on top of pages. Once you've created a Fandom account it's as easy as hitting the EDIT button and starting to write!

FAQ[]

It says the page is protected, and I can't edit. What do I do?

Some pages are protected by staff members, to prevent people from editing a page. You can read more about it in the #Page Protection section. Usually, pages are either protected because they are at a risk of being vandalized or are staff-related. If you would like to edit a protected page, you can ask an admin for help on the Wiki Discord or on the article's talk page. It's possible that the page protection will be lifted on request.

It says my edit couldn't be saved because another was published. What happened?

Edit conflicts happen when a user is editing a page and tries to save their edit, but another has been made whilst they were doing so. When this happens, the first edit that is published is saved, and an error will appear if you try to save yours after. Do not fear - your changes will appear in a box below the editing space, so scroll down, copy your changes, and combine them with the changes made by the other person. Unfortunately, merging your changes has to be done manually.

I have been blocked and cannot edit. Why?

If you have been blocked, it is usually because the Abuse Filter has flagged your edit. If this is the case, an admin will review it and publish it, and subsequently unblock you. If you have vandalized pages, then it is unlikely you will be unblocked. During a block, you cannot edit. You can read more about blocks here or appeal a block here.

Creating Pages[]

To create a page, you have two main options.

  • Go to Special:CreatePage
  • Search for the page you would like to create, hit return, and at the top of the search results, click on the highlighted part in the sentence

Create the page <search> on this wiki! See also the search results found.

WARNING! If any page unrelated to SkyBlock is created, it will be deleted by staff. Repeated attempts at doing so will result in a block. To test edits, go to your sandbox page, which can be found at Special:MyPage/Sandbox.

Page Protection[]

Page protection is when a moderator or admin protects a page so that only a certain group of people can edit it. This usually happens to high-risk pages, high-traffic pages, or when an edit war (when two or more people repeatedly editing the page with conflicting info and sometimes reverting one another's edits) takes place.

There are 3 types of protection, as can be seen below.

Protection Name Groups Blocked Groups With Permission to Edit
Allow all users None Everybody
Allow only autoconfirmed users Non-registered users Users with a Fandom account
Allow only administrators Non-staff members, rollbackers Content Moderators, Administrators, Bureaucrats

Edit Type[]

TIP! We recommend you do not edit on mobile, and instead edit on a larger screen, such as a tablet, laptop or desktop, with a keyboard available.

Visual edits may be easier for beginners but is only really useful for text edits, not edits regarding templates, tables or images.

Source edits show the source code of the page, and is much easier to edit any part of it. Although it may seem daunting at first, once you get used to it, it becomes much easier to work with. We recommend starting off by copy/pasting sections from other pages at first, to see what does what.

Images[]

Images are incredibly important - it's not just words that do it. Anyone can upload an image by going to Special:Upload or clicking on a broken file link. If you see a Question it means a file does not exist.

Please do not upload random images and only upload images related to Hypixel SkyBlock. Images of personal accomplishements, in real life or in-game are discouraged. You can check out the image policy here. When uploading a file, try to upload it is a .png file.

If you want to call a file (add it to a page), use the following: [[File:<file name>.<suffix>]]. You can also define the size of the image by adding |<#>px after the file suffix. A full example can be seen here:
[[File:Divan's Alloy.png|26px]] produces Divan's Alloy

Templates[]

Templates bring pages to life. Any page you see is probably packed with templates - infoboxes, colours, history, etc. It is key to understand how these work to make pages standardized. Templates should always be added in source mode, as in visual editor it becomes too finicky and there is much less flexibility.

If you don't know how a template's input works, always check the template's documentation, which will display examples of the template in use, with the source code above, and also shows all possible parameters. Alternatively, find a page that has the template you would like to use, and copy/paste it onto the page you are working on.

Colours

Colours bring text to life. We offer a large range of colors, but some should only be used under certain conditions. Green should be used when referring to numbers of percentages, such as 50x, 3 times and 1.6%. We discourage the over usage of colouring.

Infoboxes

History

The history template is added at the bottom of most pages to document the changes made to the feature over time in-game. It comes in several parts: the head, which starts the history template ({{history head}}), followed by the header to refer to either SkyBlock Prototype ({{history header|beta}}) or the Alpha Hypixel Network ({{history header|ahn}}). History changes are added with {{history|<version code or date>|<change>}}. Finally, to close the history table, add {{history foot}} at the bottom.

Dialogue

Dialogue is a template that recreates Minecraft text, with an indentation at the beginning. It is used for NPC speech. Minecraft colour codes (& succeded by a "code") are used to determine color and formatting.

Notifications

Notifications are message boxes with pre-written text to alert the user to something, and are added at the top of a page. Some are pre-existing, but custom banners can be created with the {{TextSection}} template.
