The Recent Changes Patrol (RCP) is a group of users who are dedicated to monitoring Special:RecentChanges. They revert unhelpful changes and report disruptive users. As a result, most spam or vandalism is reverted very quickly. More information can be found on Wikipedia.
Current Members
Users in the RCP may be identified by adding {{Userbox/RCP}} to their userpage, which will add them to the list below.
There is a channel called 🌟newcomer-edits on the Wiki Discord. The channel is available to everyone, and wiki staff have the same permissions as other users.
What counts as a "newcomer edit?"
The channel logs edits by users with fewer than 20 edits.
Edits to a user's own user space are excluded.
The filtering for the channel is controlled by Abuse Filter 98, which is publicly viewable.
Everyone can add reactions to indicate what they did in response to the change, such as reverting it, making a correction, or even leaving it as is.
There is a pinned message in the channel that explains what the different reactions mean.
Please don't add reactions that aren't in the list.
Even if someone has already reacted to the message, anyone is still welcome to add a different reaction if they disagree. For example, if someone reacted with 👍 but someone else notices a spelling mistake, they can edit the page and then react with 📝.
Anyone is also welcome to add to an existing reaction if they agree.
What if we need to discuss the edit?
Everyone can create and talk in public threads in the channel to discuss an edit. (No one is able to talk directly in the channel.)
React with 💬 when creating a discussion thread.
If there is a thread, please don't edit the page until consensus is reached in the thread.
Even if you have the ability to, please don't delete the system messages from thread creations.
Are there rules for reverting others' changes?
The normal rules for reverting others' edits still apply when using the Discord channel. Below are some highlights.
Provide the reason for reverting in the edit summary directly or link to the article's talk page for a longer explanation.
For user with rollback rights, the rollback link does not provide an explanation in the edit summary, so it should only be used in cases of clear bad faith.
To avoid edit wars, make sure to reach consensus through discussion if someone disagrees with an action you took.
See Help:Reverting on Community Central for more information about reverting.
How are disruptive users reported?
Before reporting a user, make sure their actions meet one of the criteria in the Blocking Policy.
Option 1: Create a thread from the corresponding message in the Discord channel and ping the "@Ping Friendly Admin" role with a brief explanation of why the user should be blocked.
Option 2: Use the report link next to the corresponding entry in Recent Changes, the page's history, or the user's contributions page.
Option 3: Create a report from scratch using the "Report Vandalism" button on the Administrator's Noticeboard.
How do I join this group?
Everyone is welcome! Simply add {{Userbox/RCP}} to your userpage to be added to the list above.
To get the Discord role @Newcomer Edits Ping, use Discord's Channels & Roles Specifically, select "Newcomer Edits Ping" under "What other ping roles do you want?" This role is pinged whenever there is a new entry in 🌟newcomer-edits. For Discord to actually send push notifications, you need to join this thread by sending a message or by pressing "Join Thread" in the thread's menu.
To get the Discord role @Recent Changes Patrol, ask for it in 🏅role-requests. This role is primarily cosmetic, but it may be pinged for announcements relating to the Recent Changes Patrol and/or 🌟newcomer-edits.
I have another question. Who should I ask?
Feel free to ask in the 💬wiki channel on the Wiki Discord, or leave a message on a member's Message Wall (see the list above).
