Behavior[]
The Magma Boss has 3 states/phases: Normal, Split, and Fleeing. The Normal state occurs when the boss is not in any other states. The Split state occurs every time the boss has taken 40M ❁ Damage (at 160M ❤, 120M ❤, 80M ❤, 40M ❤ and 0M ❤). The Flee phase occurs after the last Split phase.
During the Normal phase, the Magma Boss uses these attacks:
- Shoots a fireball at a nearby player every second, which deals ❁ Damage on hit.
- Creates a circle of fire particles on the ground, then jumps into the air, lands in the circle, and crushes players in the circle to death. Before landing, it launches 3 Flaming Fist-like heads towards the side of the arena opposite of the one it jumps to. Upon touching the ground, they create large areas of fire particles, which deal ❁ Damage to players standing in them every 0.5 seconds. They disappear before the boss jumps again.
During the Split phase, the boss jumps to the center of the arena and splits into many Magma Glares and Unstable Magmas. It cannot be damaged during this.
- Magma Glares target a nearby player. The more Magma Glares targeting a player, the more damage the player takes from Magma Glares and Unstable Magmas. This is calculated with .
- Unstable Magmas jump towards the player, dealing ❁ Damage on hit.
Once most of the Magma Cubes are killed, the Magma Cube Boss will go back into its Normal state. It gains +20% ❁ Damage.
During the Flee phase, the Magma Boss becomes a small Magma Cube with 10M ❤ Health. It begins to run away, jumping and flying, while shooting fireballs at nearby players. As its ❤ Health decreases, it begins to move faster and becomes smaller.
Strategy[]
Many players should work together to efficiently defeat the boss. Since the player has a higher chance of receiving rare drops if they deal more damage than other players, many players attempt to maximize their DPS.
When the boss splits into smaller cubes, players should go after the Glares, since they do massive amounts of AoE damage and do more when there are more glares targeting you.
Another way of damaging the boss for lesser amounts of damage dealt to the player is to shoot with a bow. This will keep the player safe from the boss's attacks, but will also deal less damage than a melee weapon. Using a late to end game bow such as the Terminator will yield massive amounts of damage during its phases.
Using a melee weapon is a much riskier strategy of damaging the boss, due to its jumping attack that deals substantial damage to those players standing within range. The player is not advised to undertake this strategy unless they have very effective armor such as Necron's Armor or Crimson Armor.
Using Potions can also significantly increase the amount of damage a player deals. For instance, Critical Potions can increase the player's critical damage and Archery Potions can be used to increase ranged damage.
When the boss dies, each player gets separate drops. If a player quits the lobby, gets limboed, or exits the game when the items are dropped, they will not receive the items.
Note that Arrows often bounce off the Magma Boss due to Minecraft mechanics.
As the Magma Boss is a Magma Cube, the Slime Bow does 5x damage against it, meaning that it is possible to kill Magma Glares and Unstable Magmas quickly.
One of the most cost-effective setups to kill the Magma Boss consistently is using at least 2 pieces of Terror Armor and a Juju Shortbow as Hydra Strikes can damage the boss very effectively.
Trivia[]
- The Magma Boss was the first boss added, and the first to be revamped from an early-game boss to a late-game boss.
- The Ember Rod used to be a drop from the Magma Boss, but was later removed, most likely because of other weapons outclassing it. When the Crimson Isle update came out, it was replaced by the Fire Fury Staff, a weapon with similar abilities and buffed stats.
- Ember Fragments also used to drop from the boss, but have since been replaced with Rekindled Ember Fragments with the addition of the ⏣ Crimson Isle.
- Contrary to popular belief, the player is not required to land the killing blow to have the Magma Boss count towards their Bestiary.
- The Aurora Staff does not work on the main boss, but it does when it breaks apart.
