- From November 2019 to June 2020, The Great Potato War was a battle between Technoblade and im_a_squid_kid to hold the number one position for the Potato leaderboard. There were guilds dedicated to helping both sides of the war.
- Technoblade needed large amounts of Hot Potato Books for his gear. Instead of buying them from the Auction House, he opted to use his own Potato Minions instead. After acquiring all the Hot Potato Books he needed, he discovered he was in a position to compete for the top ranking on the Potato leaderboard. He embarked on his mission to attain and hold the number one leaderboard position for Potatoes.
- With both sides weary from continued battle, Technoblade put forth a compromise to decide the winner once and for all. Whomever reached 500 million potato collection first would be declared the winner. This was later commented on by Hypixel saying that the winner would receive a reward.
- The war was finished on 21st of June, 2020 with Technoblade winning the war with exactly 500 million potatoes. Squid only had 412 million potatoes by this time. To celebrate his victory, players were able to claim the Potato Talisman from Potato King for a period after his victory.
- When Potato Spreading was first released, an item called "Potatoes" was generated in minions, rather than normal Potatoes.
