The Scatha is a mob that has a chance to spawn when mining tunnels in the Crystal Hollows.

Spawning

Worm or Scatha has a 0.16% chance to spawn when the player breaks blocks within a tunnel of any width, height, or length^[Confirm]. The mole perk does not stop spawning. There is an 80% chance for the spawned Mob to be a Worm, and a 20% chance for the Worm to be converted to a Scatha. There is a 30 second cooldown after a Scatha or Worm spawned.

The  Armadillo Pet can be used to spawn Scathas, as long as there is adjacent hardstone either to the left or right of the tunnel.

After digging out a suitable tunnel, breaking the blocks at the player's eye level on the side can still trigger Scatha spawns. Breaking the blocks at foot level will not trigger spawns but breaking below foot level will.^[Confirm]

While spawning, they make a unique squelching sound 3 times, alerting players of their presence, and the message "You hear the sound of something approaching..." will appear in chat.

Behavior

They appear as a chain of heads with the same texture of the  Scatha Pet. Every hit will remove 1❤ from their ❤ Health, similarly to Spooky Festival mobs. They start off with a chain of 10 segments, and decrease by one each hit until killed.

Upon spawning, they will slither away from the player until they hit a block/wall and turn back.

If no blocks are present under the Scatha when it is moving the Scatha will float through the air. It does not go up or down and stays true to the Y-Axis it spawns at.

Trivia

• The Scatha is a reference to Scatha from The Lord of the Rings.
• Scathas and Worms are unaffected by Derpy's double mob HP perk.
