Private Island

Hypixel SkyBlock, or simply SkyBlock, is a persistent minigame released in the Hypixel Network on June 11, 2019. It can be accessed by clicking on the NPC in the Prototype lobby, by pressing on the head icon in the server selector menu, or by executing the command /play skyblock, /play sb, or /skyblock. SkyBlock is one of the most popular games on Hypixel.

Overview

SkyBlock has no win condition or specific goal; rather, players create their own goals: some attempt to get the best armor and weapons, some work to maximize their skills, and some build impressive islands. Players start on the Private Island, and are given quests that teach them how to play. When players go through the portal to the Hub, they have many options. They can start leveling skills, such as Stone Pickaxe Mining, Golden Hoe Farming, and Stone Sword Combat. There are separate islands focused on specific skills, unlocked after a certain amount of levels in that skill. Leveling these skills up increases various statistics, including ❤ Health, ☠ Crit Damage, and ❈ Defense. Along with these skills, players level their collections, which are focused on a specific item, like Rotten Flesh, Cobblestone, and Potatoes. These collections all grant skill experience towards the related skill (for example, Potatoes give Golden Hoe Farming experience). Most collections have a minion, which keep collecting that specific item(s) even while the player is offline.

Skills

There are twelve Skills in Hypixel SkyBlock, which are automatically leveled up based on the actions performed by a player.

In order to gain XP for a specific skill, players need to perform tasks corresponding to a skill. For example, to level up Mining, the player would need to mine blocks.  Players can also level up their skills by collecting resources from their minions.

Leveling up skills provides rewards and also permanently increases various player Stats. For example, leveling up Golden Hoe Farming gives the player coins and increases their ❤ Health.

Foraging, Fishing, Alchemy and Dungeoneering go from level 1-50, Runecrafting and Social which go up to 25. Farming, Mining, Enchanting, and Combat which go up to 60. Level 1 requires 50 XP to obtain, meaning the default level is Level 0.

The player's skill level can be seen by opening the SkyBlock Menu and going to "Skills" (displayed as a Diamond Sword).

Collections

Painting

Collections are a way of unlocking new crafting recipes, item Trades or receiving rewards for collecting a certain item (such as skill XP). Most vanilla items have their own collection; the more of that item the player collects, the further the player will progress in its collection. The further the player is in a collection, the more levels that will be reached, unlocking more recipes and rewards. Note that items bought from the Bazaar or Auction House and items dropped or placed by players, do not count; however items collected from Minions do. There are boss collections, which increase by killing the respective bosses. Every collection gives the player an item related to the boss or an item dropped by the boss (e.g. Bonzo Staff, which is dropped by Bonzo, can be obtained through the Bonzo Collection for free after killing Bonzo 150 times)

To access collections, open the SkyBlock Menu and click the painting named "Collections." Then, click on a skill to reveal its item collections. The skills that contain collections are Farming, Mining, Combat, Foraging, Fishing, and Boss.

Each item collection will show a row of glass panes showing the player's progress on collecting the items. Green panes indicate completed, yellow indicates progress is being made towards this level, and red indicates no progress has been made towards this level. Clicking on a pane will show the rewards for the tier.

Currently, there are 60 collections and 7 dungeon exclusive collections that are unlockable.

Minions

Minions are a fundamental part of Hypixel SkyBlock. They allow the player to earn resources even while offline. A Minion generates resources from the center of a 5x5 Area by default and generates different materials depending on its type. They cannot be sold or added to the Auction House, but they can be traded. Minions can also be upgraded, up to tier XI (or tier XII for mining and farming minions), with each tier increasing either minion capacity or decreasing action time. Players will have a Tier I Cobblestone minion on their starter island when they first spawn.

Minions can be crafted into higher tiers which increases their collection speed and its maximum storage size, with tier XI/XII being the highest tier. Tiered minions can be distinguished by their colored patch on their heads, with light green patches being tier II-IV, purple patches being tier V-VII, orange patches being tier VII-X, and cyan patches being tier XI. Also, there is a quick crafting diamond, so that the owner does not need to manually craft the next tier.

Initially, the player can only place five minions. Furthermore, you can gain an additional 5 minion slots through Profile Upgrades and 25 minion slots by crafting various unique minion tiers. This means players can have a total of 30 minion slots. (see increasing minion capacity).

Locations

Locations are a fundamental part of Hypixel SkyBlock, and they are where players collect items for Collections, interact with NPCs, grind skills or more.

NPCs

NPCs, or Non-Player Characters, are characters that are scattered around the map. You can talk to them, and some of them will have a Quest for you, or own a Shop where you are able to purchase items for a price. Each Area has at least one NPC. Some NPCs sell items while others might sell Weapons/Tools that you cant craft. For NPC that do sell items, you buy those items and, sell them higher than their buy price. For more information check NPC Flipping.

Quests

The quest log UI

The quest log

Quests is a gameplay mechanic that allows new players to explore the world and earn rewards for doing tasks. Different quests have different tasks that can require players to collect or find certain items or explore an area.

Note: This page will contain several spoilers on how to complete each quest. It is ordered in the recommended order of completion, although players are free to complete these in any order they prefer.

To find NPCs, press F3 on the keyboard and use the coordinates listed after the XYZ. Also, if one's inventory ever becomes full, remember to utilize the personal ender chest found in the SkyBlock Menu. These quests were completed on an alternate account and not by guesswork so every quest mentioned in this guide should be possible.

Achievements

Diamond

The achievements button

Achievements are in-game goals that the player can accomplish and award achievement points for unlocking cosmetic features on the Hypixel server game lobbies (not SkyBlock Lobbies). In the July 2nd Update (2019), 60 achievements were added.

Players can view their achievement progress by opening the SkyBlock Menu, clicking "My Hypixel Profile (one square up from om left), clicking "Achievements" (diamond icon), and then clicking the globe icon. Please note that as Hypixel adds achievements, actions that the player has completed might show as uncompleted; if this occurs simply try and repeat this action again to complete the achievement.

Trades

Trades (not to be confused with Trading) are a SkyBlock Mechanic where players can trade items in their inventory for other items supplied by the server, using a submenu in their SkyBlock Menu. Trades can only be unlocked through a Collection. Trading for resources does not affect collection progress.

You can directly sell items from Trade Menu when you have a Booster Cookie activated.

Fairy Souls

Fairy Soul

Fairy Souls are collectibles that take the form of custom-textured heads (smaller blocks) scattered and hidden around parts of the map.

Players can interact with Fairy Souls by right-clicking them. Each soul is unique and is able to be collected only once. A message in the chat is displayed to the player each time they interact with a soul informing them they have collected the soul or previously discovered it.

Fairy Souls may be exchanged in groups of five with Tia the Fairy, a fairy in the Wilderness in the south part of the Hub Island, by a sand pond. In exchange, the player will receive SkyBlock XP and Backpack slots. Exchanges will slowly improve as more souls are turned in.

There are 238 fairy souls in total as of the SkyBlock v0.13 update.

  • Three fairy souls are not found in the physical world but are instead obtained as a rare drop while Fishing.
  • Eight fairy souls can be found in The Catacombs scattered in different rooms in dungeons. Specific coordinates for each fairy soul location won't be available due to randomized generated dungeon rooms with different coordinates. A few ways to discover them are by watching a walkthrough, observing images, or knowing dungeon room details, followed by memorizing each room the fairy souls in. Players can also check the Quest Log in Fairy Souls while in dungeons with the item displaying a paper named Dungeon. It'll show how many fairy souls are available in this specific dungeon. If it is missing, there are no fairy souls in that dungeon. Always check before scavenging for them.
  • Note that finding them all can take a few hours even with a guide. It is recommended to watch a walkthrough in slow-motion to stay on track.

Dungeons

The Catacombs - Entrance

The Catacombs Entrance

Dungeons are randomly generated labyrinths. Within a dungeon, there are monsters that will constantly try to harm the player. Each mob is unique in its own way and may have a chance to drop valuable items, including various Armor pieces and Weapons. There are also numerous different rooms consisting of mini-bosses, puzzles, and even NPCs to buy items from.
