For every tank level up to level 49 you get:
- +1 ❈ Defense
- + 0.2% Defense
- + 20000-50000 Seismic Wave Damage
- +10 ❤ Absorption from Ghost Absorption Potion
At Tank Level 50, you instead gain + 2 Defense, along with + 0.2% Defense, +10 Absorption from Ghost Absorption Potion, and +100000 Seismic Wave Damage
At Tank Level 50, you receive the following total buffs:
- +51 ❈ Defense, for a total of +101 ❈ Defense
- +10% ❈ Defense for a total of permanent +35% ❈ Defense
- + 500 Absorption from Ghost Absorption Potion, for a total of 700 Absorption
When you are the only tank, the buffs change as following:
- +25% -> +50% permanent ❈ Defense
- Upon Falling below 50% -> 100% health, gain an ❤ Absorption Shield 10% -> 20% of your health. Note: As the health at which this activates gets increased to 100%, it will always trigger every 90s -> 45s. It is unknown if this is intended or not.
Recommended Gear[]
Armor[]
For starters and low Budget, Heavy Armor is good enough, and generally sets with high ❤ Effective Health. An Adaptive Armor set can also be viable up to Floor V, but Shadow Assassin Armor is about as good, if not better. But if one struggles to obtain money, it is a good strategy to use Super Heavy Armor/LEGENDARY Zombie Soldier Armor. Perfect Armor can also be viable, but is also quite costly. Once you get a Floor VI completion, you can start using Necromancer Lord Armor, usually with a Reaper Mask. Once you get a Floor VII completion, and have enough money for it, you can get yourself 3/4 Goldor's Armor with a Reaper Mask, which is also the best set for ❤ EHP in the game. It is also suggested to substitute your chestplate with a Stone/Metal/Steel Chestplate, since the purpose of tank is to take all the damage that your teammates are taking. A pair of T12 Perfect Boots with three Fine Amethyst Gemstones applied will provide more Effective Health than Goldor's Boots.
Weapons[]
Due to the nature of tanks, they don't deal much damage. If you want to use a damage weapon anyways, a Livid Dagger is normally good enough. The main damage source is from the Seismic Wave ability specially at higher Catacombs levels, so it's viable to use an Earth Shard, which also gives ❈ Defense when held. The other three swords that give ❈ Defense are the Golem Sword, which only gives 25, the Adaptive Blade also gives defense when used as tank class, Wither Cloak Sword, and Astraea. If you can afford an Astraea, go for it, but if you can't you can just use a Wither Cloak.
Pets[]
For the most ❤ Effective Health, a LEGENDARY Blue Whale Pet the best. If you are a Tankzerker and are using a Flower of Truth, a Baby Yeti Pet can be better, but that's often not the case. If you have a lower Budget, then an epic Turtle Pet is a good replacement for a Blue Whale. As for the Pet Item, if you want to use the Pet for other situations too, a Dwarf Turtle Shelmet isn't necessary because of the Tank's Defensive Stance Perk giving ⬱ Knockback immunity. Instead, use a Minos Relic or Spooky Cupcake as its ✦ Speed increase is very useful, especially if you are wearing Heavy/Super Heavy Armor.
Reforges[]
The best armor Reforge for ❤ Effective Health is, by far, Giant. It gives a lot of ❤ Health, which also gets further buffed by the Blue Whale. Using the Perfect Reforge may seem better, especially because of the +2% ❈ Defense bonus from it, but even with the Tank's +50% ❈ Defense buff it is still worse. This is due to how ❤ Effective Health gets calculated. From the normal reforges, Titanic is the best.
As for your weapon, there is one reforge that buffs ❈ Defense and ❤ Health, which is the Bulky Stone. However, it is extremely discouraged to put this onto your main weapon, as your damage output would be immediately reduced by a great amount. If you have one, apply it to your Earth Shard, as it's not your main source of damage, and the Seismic Wave ability will benefit from the slight ❈ Defense boost when holding the Earth Shard. For your main weapon, going for highest damage is best. Fabled, Withered and, since the Strength Nerf, Suspicious, are the best for raw damage. If you want to use one of the normal Reforges, use Sharp if you need more ☣ Crit Chance, and Spicy for max Damage.
Milestones[]
Tank class can reach its milestones by tanking and dealing damage in the dungeon. Refer here for a table showcasing class milestones.
Trivia[]
- The Castle of Stone perk is a reference to the guardian skill Castle of Stone from Log Horizon, of which grants one immunity to damage for a short duration. The perk itself does more resemble the guardian skill Anchor Howl, of which aggros enemies and grants one increased defense for a short duration.
- There is a glitch where, when changing your armor set via the Wardrobe, the Tank ⬱ Knockback immunity perk stops working.
- There is another glitch where, if mobs are standing on carpet, the mobs on carpet will not take any damage from the Seismic Wave ability. Noticeable when you are soloing the Floor VI boss fight.
