Behavior

The Tarantula Broodfather is a Spider-type mob hostile to all players. It has the appearance of a cave spider riding a spider. It is agile, able to move quickly, climb walls and jump huge distances. It deals melee damage. Often, it will change targets to other nearby players.

All Tarantula Broodfathers are immune to the abilities of Aspect of the Dragons and Ice Spray Wand.

As with all Slayer bosses, if the Tarantula Broodfather has not dealt damage to a player for some time, it will begin rapidly regenerating health. The regeneration immediately stops when it hits a player again. Additionally, if either it or its target stays in the same block for too long, it performs a slam-dunk attack, knocking the target towards it and dealing ✷ True Damage. If 3 minutes pass without the boss being defeated, it will despawn, failing the Slayer quest. A timer is shown above its head indicating the remaining time.

Each tier has all of the abilities from the ones before it.

Minibosses

The following Minibosses have a chance to spawn when killing a Spider while a Tarantula Broodfather slayer quest of Tier III or more is ongoing. These Minibosses provide more  Combat XP, therefore speeding up the process to spawning a Tarantula Broodfather.

It is also possible that after killing one of these Minibosses, another one could spawn immediately.

Tips

• It is recommended to use  Tarantula Armor to kill a Tarantula Broodfather Tier IV with at least 10,000 kills on the armor, as its piece bonus grants higher ❈ Defense against spiders, the more spiders have been killed with the set equipped.
  • Alternatively, a high damaging set such as  Superior Dragon Armor or  Shadow Assassin Armor sets is a sizable improvement over  Tarantula Armor in ❁ Damage, and it can decrease the time for each slayer by a measurable amount, due to it focusing on ❁ Damage rather than ❈ Defense.
• A  Radiant Power Orb or higher, paired with a  Spider Hat is recommended for fighting Tarantula Broodfather Tier III and above, as an alternative to  Tarantula Armor.
• It is highly recommended to use Healing Enchantments like Life Steal and Vampirism on weapons. If the player's ❤ Health gets too low while fighting a Tarantula Broodfather, killing a couple of nearby spiders can activate Vampirism and keep the player alive.
• While fighting the Tarantula Broodfather, backing up into a corner reduces the effect of its leaps and makes it much easier to land hits on the boss.
• If the player has a high amount of ✎ Intelligence, a  Voodoo Doll can be used to drain the Tarantula Broodfather's ❤ Health quickly.
• It used to be possible to sword-swap between a  Giant's Sword and a  Scorpion Foil to one-shot a Tarantula Broodfather Tier IV. This method is no longer available, however, as since sword-swapping has since been patched.
