This is an overall guide for the skill Fishing including ironman/stranded gamemodes.
Basic Fishing Information[]
Minions[]
To gain fishing experience while being early-game is incredibly tedious. Therefore, a considerable amount of people decide to use minions for their first few fishing levels.
Fishing Minions can potentially provide players more fishing experience than Clay Minions. However, it is not until tier 9 that fishing minions outclass tier 11 clay minions in terms of fishing experience over the same time span.
Other than fishing experience, fishing minions also can help you progress faster in fishing related Collections, like Sponge, which is a slow collection to do when manually fishing. That being said, fishing minions still cannot help with Lily Pad, Ink Sac, and Magmafish collections.
Rain[]
Different types of rain grant divergent buffs for fishing. Rain in the ⏣ Spider's Den grants 50 ☂ Fishing Speed. Thunderstorms, which are exclusive to the Spider's Den, grant an extra 3 α Sea Creature Chance chance on top of the aforementioned Fishing Speed bonus.
Unlike the other two giving direct fishing stat buffs, rain in the ⏣ Birch Park increases the chance to catch Squids and allows the player to catch Night Squids without the use of Dark Bait.
Sea Creature Chance[]
Sea Creature Chance means how likely a player will catch a Sea Creature. There is no cap for this stat, however, any number for this stat above 100% is ineffective (except for Marina's Double Trouble perk). There are many ways to gain Sea Creature Chance, most notably armor and rods. There are also some unique ways to increase Sea Creature Chance, like from a Beacon and Sea Creature Chance Enrichments. Although this stat is very important, it is recommended for starter fishers to stop at around 80 α Sea Creature Chance and start working on Fishing Speed.
- Pro Tip: Clicking on the Cost Per SCC Box will sort it from lowest to highest.
Fishing Speed[]
Fishing Speed is a stat that can shorten the time before particles appear and move toward your rod. At 300 (350 on the ⏣ Crimson Isle) Fishing Speed, particles instantly appear. Compared to Sea Creature Chance, this stat is a lot harder to max out considering most methods are quite expensive. Gillsplash equipment, often being the last resort for people to gain Fishing Speed, require 2x Diamond Magmafish each to craft and only gives 12 ☂ Fishing Speed. Therefore, newer fishers should focus on Sea Creature Chance first then slowly upgrading their gear for more Fishing Speed.
- Pro Tip: Clicking on the Cost Per FS Box will sort it from lowest to highest.
Gear[]
Armor[]
Getting Bobbin' Time on your pieces is optional, and is generally not recommended before Magma Lord Armor due to its price.
Fishing Level | Gear |
---|---|
Fishing 1-12: | Water Hydra Head + 2/4 Angler Armor + Squid Boots (Raw Fish V )
|
Fishing 13-19: | Water Hydra Head + 3/4 Salmon Armor |
Fishing 20-23: | Full Diver's Armor or Sponge Armor (Sponge IX )
|
Fishing 24-26: | Shark Scale Armor |
Fishing 27: | 3/4 Shark Scale Armor + Slug Boots |
Fishing 28~32: | 2/4 Shark Scale Armor + Moogma Leggings + Slug Boots |
Fishing 33~34: | 1/4 Shark Scale Armor + Flaming Chestplate + Moogma Leggings + Slug Boots |
Fishing 35: | Taurus Helmet + Flaming Chestplate + Moogma Leggings + Slug Boots (Lava Sea Creature Armor) |
Fishing 36~44: | Thunder Armor |
Fishing 45: | Magma Lord Armor |
While on ⏣ Jerry's Workshop, Nutcracker Armor may be a good choice for players who do not yet cap their stats with their regular fishing armor set, especially to compensate for the stat loss from using an Auger Rod instead of a Rod of the Sea.
For armor pieces with Attributes, Blazing Fortune and Fishing Experience is generally considered the best combination, factoring in the additional profit from pet leveling. Alternatively, Blazing Fortune and Magic Find is also a good choice. However, the Magic Find attribute requires a Kuudra Tier 5 (Infernal) completion to be able to roll or use. Players also commonly use a secondary Lava Sea Creature Armor set for the latter attribute combination, as getting it on Magma Lord Armor is much more expensive.

Pets[]
Pet | Information |
---|---|
Ammonite Pet |
Although the Ammonite Pet is obtained through Mining means, it is one of the best fishing pets of all time with an amazing balance between ☂ Fishing Speed and α Sea Creature Chance. The Ammonite Pet is also the ideal pet players should use for Worm fishing, as it nullifies the effect that slows down fishing when the block the bobber is in isn’t exposed to the sky. It should also be mentioned that players are not recommended to swap from a Dolphin to this pet until they have a decent Heart of the Mountain and Mining level. |
Dolphin Pet |
The Dolphin Pet is the most suitable pet for early fishers as it grants similar Sea Creature Chance and Fishing Speed compared to the Ammonite without any requirements. The EPIC rarity of the pet is more recommended to be used since it is cheaper than the LEGENDARY dolphin for the same amount of sea creature chance. In addition, the third perk the Legendary Dolphin Pet provides can sometimes break mob hitboxes. |
Squid Pet |
The Squid Pet is the only pet that grants the player ☯ Fishing Wisdom directly, which increases fishing experience gain. This pet can also be used to pet swap for squid fishing, one of the best fishing money making methods. |
Flying Fish Pet |
The Flying Fish Pet often appears as a more late game fishing pet because of its high cost for the MYTHIC rarity and that the ability only buffs Magma Lord Armor, the best fishing armor set in the game. The Flying Fish Pet focuses more on Fishing Speed than Sea Creature Chance. For this reason, it is only recommended to use this pet while being in the ⏣ Crimson Isle as the stats it makes the player to hit the Fishing Speed cap easier. |
Reindeer Pet |
The Reindeer Pet is designed for fishing in ⏣ Jerry's Workshop, granting 20 more Fishing Speed than the MYTHIC Flying Fish Pet on the Winter Island at the cost of a little Sea Creature Chance. Although the Reindeer Pet may seem useful, most people don't actually lack Fishing Speed on the Winter Island, but Sea Creature Chance. This pet is most suitable for those who just fish on the Winter Island and don't want to spend a lot on fishing gear. |
Megalodon Pet |
Since update 0.19.12, the Megalodon Pet became an extremely useful pet to use during Mayor Marina's Fishing Festival. Its base stats during the festivals, during which at level 100 can give more Sea Creature Chance than any other pet, as well as tying the fishing speed with a Flying Fish pet (although excluding armor buff). Additionally, it has a legendary perk that increases the chance to catching sharks by up to 20%. |
Water Fishing Techniques[]
Squid Fishing[]
- Required items: LEGENDARY Squid Pet, Looting
- Recommended bait: Fish Bait
Ink fishing is a fishing method in which you kill a massive amount of Squids and Night Squids in order to obtain large amounts of Ink Sacs. This fishing style often happens in The Park with Vanessa's rain on. After some testing, using a Soul Whip to fish up Squids and then kill them with magic damage was the most efficient way to ink fish.
This is when Pet Rules come into play. Setting up a Pet Rule like the one under would maximize your ink sack gaining rates.
- Condition 1
- Condition 2
- When: You throw a fishing hook; equip Flying Fish Pet
Rabbit Fishing[]
- Required items: ✯ Magic Find setup
- Recommended bait: Carrot Bait
Rabbit fishing is currently the only way to obtain Lucky Clover Cores which are used to craft the Lucky Clover, that gives a huge boost in ✯ Magic Find. It has a pretty high value on the Auction House. Nonetheless, the drop rate of Lucky Clover Cores is very low. The Carrot King is the Sea Creature you want to fish up to get money.
The Rabbit Axe does not triple Lucky Clover Core drops.
Bestiary party[]
- Required items: Frozen Blaze Armor
Sea creature bestiaries are often annoying to grind. However, with the ability of the Frozen Blaze Armor set, player can lootshare bestiary from people's sea creatures relativly easily without needing to swap to low damage weapons. Though this set is ideal for sharing bestiary, it lacks Fishing Speed and Sea Creature Chance, it would be best if the armor pieces had Bobbin' Time on it.
Lava Fishing Techniques[]
Worm Fishing[]
- Required items: Looting, Lava rod
- Recommended bait: Fish Bait
- Recommended attributes: Fishing Speed, Double Hook
And now we will get into the most known fishing money-making method, worm fishing. In order to worm fish, you would need to find a lava source in the Crystal Hollows above Y=64 in the Precursor Remnants. After you find one, build a box around it and dig a two-block deep hole behind the place you will be fishing. After fishing up some Flaming Worms, you should kill the Worms with a high-level of Looting to get the most drops from them. You should be killing every 30 worms or when with a lootshare party, every time you hit the sea creature cap, 60 sea creatures.
In order to lootshare, try to corrupt them first, then everyone who loot-shares use an AOE weapon to damage them (eg. Dreadlord Sword). In the end, let the player with the highest Looting level kill the worms. Magic damage does not nullify looting effects.
Crimson Isle Barn Fishing[]
- Required items: Lava rods, damage gear, weapon with Looting
- Recommended bait: Fish Bait
- Recommended attributes: Fishing Speed, Double Hook
The Crimson Isle sea creatures have the highest HP of all. Before you have Magma Lord Armor or Thunder Armor, it is recommended to fish with a damage set. It is advised to use a Fire Veil Wand to kill the lava sea creatures if you're on a low budget, otherwise just use a Hyperion to kill the sea creatures.
Just like the original barn fishing, you need to find a cliff where you can store your sea creatures, then start fishing. Kill the sea creatures every 5 minutes or whenever the sea creature cap has been reached. If you want more Magmafish, you should consider placing a Totem of Corruption before killing the sea creatures.
Magic Find also buffs the chances for fishing loot, so getting the Blazing Fortune attribute is recommended.
For the maximum loot gain, use these pet rules:
- Condition 1
- Condition 2
- When: You throw a fishing hook; equip Flying Fish Pet
Crimson Isle XP Fishing[]
- Required items: Lava rods, damage gear
- Recommended bait: Fish Bait
- Recommended attributes: Fishing Speed, Double Hook
In order to get the most XP out of sea creatures, you would have to kill every mob you fish up instantly. By doing this you wouldn't have any time wasted just to kill the sea creatures. For the maximum xp gain, use these pet rules:
- Condition 1
- Condition 2
- When: You throw a fishing hook; equip Flying Fish Pet
Trophy Fishing[]
The Crimson Isle introduces a new form of fishing in the form of Trophy Fishing. It mainly excludes catching any sea creatures, thus require its own specialized sets of gear, including specialized rods and the Trophy Hunter Armor sets to aid the player. It is recommended to do the faction story tasks first as it will introduce the player to Odger which will be a guide and important NPC for the activity.
Trophy fishing is considered a highly time-consuming task and some generally are put-off by the monotony, but the game requires you to reach Novice (Bronze) Hunter rank to unlock Thunder, and Adept (Silver) rank for Lord Jawbus. In order to be able to use the best Hunter Armor and have access to the highest tier Accessory, you need to fish up every level of every Trophy Fish. While it will still take potentially hundreds of hours of fishing, there are ways to make efficient use of the time spent on fishing to speed up the process as discussed below.
General Tips[]
- Before the player gets started, they should get a new lava rod separate to that used for standard lava fishing, with the attributes Trophy Hunter and Fishing Speed. This rod will be necessary to efficiently catch all of the Trophy Fish with a few exceptions. Having the Luck of the Sea and Blessing enchantments can also help in making more money from the potential treasures.
- The game prioritizes the Trophy Fish with the lowest chance first. For example, if you're eligible for the Karate Fish, Lava Horse, and Blobfish - first roll a 1% chance for Karate Fish, then roll a 4% chance for Lava Horse, and then a 15% chance for Blobfish. If all rolls fail, regular Fishing Loot will roll afterwards.
- Players reported however, that the Steaming-Hot Flounder specifically does not follow this rule properly, and rolled last regardless of any higher-chance Trophy Fish, which are the Obfuscated 1 and Sulphur Skitter.
- Midas Lure and Radiant Fisher are essence shops upgrades that should be upgraded to the max as they improve the chance of getting Gold and Diamond trophy fishes. The shops can be found under the Royal Bridge and inside the Crystal Nucleus.
- An epic/legendary Kuudra Pet has a perk that increases the chance of catching a Trophy Fish by up to 20%.
- Some players will not be so lucky in catching Gold or Diamond fish within the expected range of 1/50 and 1/500 chance respectively, thus a pity system is available which guarantees to give the player a Gold-rank fish on the 100th catch, and Diamond on the 1000th provided that they have never caught one.
- For most cases, go for the bait and a pet that gives the best Fishing Speed, which is the Fish Bait and Flying Fish Pet.
- If possible, try fishing before hitting Fishing level 27 as that is when the first lava sea creature can spawn. Without a Trophy Hunter armor set, the lava sea creatures can prove to be dangerous for a beginner, as well as slowing down progress. Once getting the Bronze Trophy Hunter set, the task can be set aside for later.
- The aforementioned rod made for trophy fishing could be resold later after the player has had enough of trophy fishing, usually at a higher price compared to the craft cost.
- A common trick is to apply all 10 stars onto all the trophy armor pieces. This does not help in fishing but the stars will stay when upgrading the armor through Odger's milestones. This means that the armor can be salvaged to yield Diamond Magmafish after reaching Master rank, a definite profit from the cheap cost of upgrading early on.
- Do not put your armor set that you plan on salvaging into the museum as they cannot be salvaged after being donated. You can buy another set from Odger's Lost Rewards shop for that purpose.
Universal[]
'Universal' trophy fishes include the Blobfish and Lavahorse. These have no special requirements and will be available all the time. It is certain that the player would have caught at least one Diamond fish for both of them if going for all the other ones.
The Mana Ray can also be lumped together as a Universal fish as the only requirement is for the player to have at least 1,200 mana, meaning like the previous two, can be caught anywhere and anytime on the Crimson Isles. If the Diamond fish has been caught already, it is recommended to turn down one's intelligence to make way for other fish.
Golden Fish[]
A Golden Fish can potentially spawn starting from 15 minutes of lava fishing and its chance to spawn will reach 100% once it hits the 20 minute mark. This timer will keep going as long as the player has casted the bobber at least once into lava for no more than 3 minutes apart. These will also spawn any time the player is lava fishing in the Crimson Isle, not just while fishing for other trophy fishes.
Thus, if the player wants to do trophy fishing in any capacity, they should keep doing so for 15 to 20 minute intervals as to not let the timer go to waste. Avoid fishing in lobbies that are approaching or is over 30 days old (visible in the debug screen/F3), as a lobby shutdown will reset the timer. If one were to disconnect while fishing, the timer will also reset unless they reconnected into the same lobby, in which the timer will keep going.
Should the player be unlucky, reaching the Diamond pity qualification requires anywhere from 250 to 333 hours of fishing.
Note: Some areas are bugged and causes the Golden Fish to never spawn. If it's over 20 minutes and not one has spawned, move to a new fishing spot and the fish should immediately spawn. In that case, avoid fishing in the initial spot.
Gusher[]
Gushers can be caught within 7 to 16 minutes after the volcano has erupted. This can be difficult to take advantage of as the eruption can be between 120 to 150 minutes apart. Should the player attempt to catch them, try looking for signs of a recent eruption such as Matcho spawning, Sulphur ores scattered around, the volcano lava on the top receding, and the entrance into the volcano at the front closed. Gushers have a 20% chance to be caught when rolled for trophy fish, so if not even one appeared in a minute or two or fishing, it may not be available. Lobbies less than 7 days old would not have an eruption happen.
There appears to be a bug where if at least one eruption has happened, some players report that they are still able to catch Gushers beyond the usual timer. Some spots include overlapping zones of the Blazing Volcano with the Burning Desert or Mystic Marsh. Some even report being able to catch Gushers anywhere with this bug active.
Sulphur Skitter[]
They can be caught while being within 4 blocks of a Sulphur Ore, which will be available after a volcano eruption. They have the highest chance of being caught at 30% and goes hand-in-hand with the Gusher. Do note that sulphur ores are there to be mined so if someone approaches you while while fishing, ask them to leave the ore alone.
Being the trophy fish with the highest chance, it will (almost) always roll last when trophy fishing for other fish. This makes it a good source of added income as despite its common chance, the Bronze variant alone gives 40 Magmafish when fileted.
Obfuscated Fish[]
There are 3 types of Obfuscated Fish to be caught, each in stages by using the current one as bait to catch the higher one (for example using Obfuscated 1 as bait to catch Obfuscated 2). This makes it potentially time-consuming. However, it is considered the most profitable one to catch as the Obfuscated 3 fish yield the same filet drops as a Golden Fish, meaning the player may end up getting hundreds of thousands of magmafish after they're done.
For Obfuscated 1, the game suggests that the Corrupted Bait to be used to catch them. However, this is highly inefficient as it cuts your fishing speed by half, and generally not a good use of time. The better way to farm them is to get a Totem of Corruption and barn fish any other sea creatures (including water), although fishing for Lava Sea Creatures (aside from Flaming Worms in Crystal Hollows) can prove deadly to an ill-equipped player due to the increased damage. Obfuscated 1 fish dropped by the corrupted mobs will count towards progress. and the player will accumulate the trophy fish rapidly and gain a diamond fish in no time. Additionally, Obfuscated 1 can be farmed outside of trophy fishing to increase one's fishing rates.
For Obfuscated 2 and 3, it is highly recommended that the player obtains another lava rod with Fisherman attribute instead of Fishing Speed. While the player will lose out on the speed increase, it is much more worthwhile as the player will spend far less time going back and forth getting the lower tier baits, as combining Fisherman X with the Caster VI enchantment and Spiked Atrocity accessory means that the player reduces the chance of using these precious baits by 90%. Additionally, rods with the Fisherman attribute (sometimes in combination with Trophy Hunter) can typically be bought for far cheaper in the Auction House than it is to craft a high-tier one yourself.
When the Golden Fish surfaces, it is recommended to disable the Fishing Bag's bait use option as hooking onto the Golden Fish can still consume the precious baits. Remember to enable it back afterwards.
Vanille[]
Requires the player to use a Starter Lava Rod with no enchantments. If the player's Starter rod has been enchanted, they can buy another one from Odger's lost rewards shop. Due to the lack of enchantments or attributes, this may be the hardest trophy fish to catch. Also, do stash up on fishing baits (preferably Fish Bait or Hot Bait) as it will be used up quickly with no Caster enchantment.
The community previously used many forms of rod-swapping techniques which lets the player use a more powerful rod, and tricking the game to use the stats of said rod onto the Starter Lava Rod. The majority of these known exploits have been patched. Those that remain have limited but still substantial effects, mainly in boosting the fishing speed.
Slugfish[]
The Slugfish requires the bobber to be casted for 20 seconds or more, and it's not necessarily required for the bobber to be in lava. It is essential to get a level 100 Slug Pet of any rarity as it will cut the time required by half (down to 10 seconds), making it more bearable.
Some players may still find it hard to catch from too much fishing speed. Thus, they can follow the following tips or combining some together to tune it:
- Stop using any bait that increases fishing speed (substitute for Hot Bait instead)
- Have the bobber be under a block for double fishing time
- Remove accessories that give fishing speed out of the Accessory Bag/Inventory
- Remove equipment that give fishing speed (specifically the Ichthyic equipment and its upgrades)
- Remove reforges that give fishing speed
- Remove the Lure enchantment from the rod (using the hex)
- Use the aforementioned Obfuscated fishing rod for no Fishing Speed attribute
- Delay the the bobber from hitting the lava by fishing further away/higher up, and/or throwing the bobber at an upward angle
- Turn off the Glowing Mush Tonic effect (with Booster Cookie)
A known, albeit mostly obsolete technique adopted was to use the Ember Armor (older version), and use its ability to turn lava into obsidian. This suspends the bobber when casted and once it's closing in on 10 seconds, switch back to your main armor to turn the obsidian back to lava to start catching a fish. This requires a disproportionately high amount of effort, though, and is far less practical now than it is on older versions where it required 30 seconds, then 20 seconds with no slug pet available at the time.
The player can also simply let the bobber get a bite once without reeling and only doing so on the the second bite. This however may prove inconsistent as the speed varies.
Alternatively, the player can simply forgo most of the above by adopting a reverse variant of the aforementioned rod-swapping technique. Instead of swapping a powerful rod to the Starter Rod, for the purposes of catching a Slugfish, one can swap from a non-fishing rod item to the desired high-tier fishing rod of choice, which will retain all the rod's stats except the fishing speed, which will be +0, ideal for this purpose.
Location-Specific[]
These locations include:
- Mystic Marsh (and other Mycelium areas) for Moldfin
- Dojo for Karate Fish
- Burning Desert (and other Red Sand areas) for Skeleton Fish
- Stronghold for Soul Fish
- Blazing Volcano for Volcanic Stonefish, Steaming-Hot Flounder, and Flyfish
There are many location specific trophy fish that exist, and some of them have low chance of being caught, notably the infamous Karate Fish with a 1% chance. To make good use of the time, the player should for example try fishing for all the other fishes that aren't bound to location on these specific areas (also known as 'stacking')
The Volcanic Stonefish, Steaming-Hot Flounder, and Flyfish can all be caught together inside the volcano. Do keep on mind that many of the geyser locations necessary to catch the flounder have no sky access, thus the Ammonite Pet has to be used instead. While inside the volcano fishing for the flounder, standing on y126 and above will qualify for Flyfish. Outside the volcano's base lava, the height for Flyfish will vary as long as the player is 8+ blocks above the lava.
The Mystic Marsh (Moldfin) or Burning Desert (Skeleton Fish) can overlap with the volcano area to catch the volcano-specific trophy fish (except the flounder). As long as it shows the Marsh or Desert area in the sidebar while also being close to the volcano itself, the player can catch two areas worth of trophy fish together.
Ironman Fishing[]
Water Fishing[]
First, you should unlock the Fishing Minion recipe and craft some with fish you can buy from the Fish Merchant. The first set of fishing your armor you get should be 3/4 Angler Armor with Squid Boots. Then, keep collecting fishing loot until you are able to unlock the Salmon Armor. While unlocking the salmon armor, remember to regularly buy Sponge from the Builder in order to prepare for Sponge Armor which can then be upgraded to shark scale whenever you get enough Enchanted Shark Fin from Marina's fishing festival.
The Winter Rod is a rod early game ♲ Ironman players should aim toward, since it's cheaper than the Challenging Rod and provides the same stats on the Jerry Island. Which could be useful to get gifts from sea creatures in order to obtain your first Snow Minions.
Since Lily Pads can be hard to grind on Ironman, it is recommended to loot share Nutcrackers to help with upgrading your rod.
Lava Fishing[]
Worms[]
In some point of Ironman progression, you would need to start worm fishing for chambers to put on your Divan Armor. Although doing this may seem inappropriate, but lootsharing worms with a good fisher is the most efficient way for you to obtain Worm Membrane. They fish up more worms than you could and they might even own a weapon with Looting V which can also boost membrane drop rates of your worms.
Crimson Isle[]
Lava fishing is just the same as standard but takes longer to upgrade. To get a desirable rod, upgrade your rod's attributes to at least 8/8. The desired attribute combination is Double Hook and Fishing Speed.
Aim for trophy fishing before Fishing 27 to unlock bronze tier so it's easier to get later tiers in the future unless you have a good Mage weapon by then.
Going for a trophy fishing rod isn't really suggested. However, if you do go for one, it is advised to get at least 6/6 since trophy fishing is better for Magmafish collection.
Going for the Lava Sea Creature Armor is recommended; try doing lootshare parties if you can't deal with the Sea Creatures yourself.
Submerged Shark Scale Armor is slightly better for α Sea Creature Chance but the mixed set also gives bonus damage to ⏣ Crimson Isle sea creatures.
Stranded Fishing[]
Fishing is extremely rewarding and is fundamental for ☀ Stranded progression, and from the start of your profile it has a huge impact on your gear.
Stranded Water Fishing[]
The first thing Stranded players should do is get:
- Water Bucket Trade (Clownfish
II
)
Every weapon for sea creatures works fine, just set your spawn near them and kill them. Create a bigger pool and fish until you unlock the Fishing Minion, going further isn't worth it for now. - Prismarine Blade (Prismarine Shard
II
)
This weapon does 200% more damage while in water, making tanky sea creatures more approachable until you can get a high-damage Tactician Sword. - Mercenary Armor ( Rosetta)
Before starting to fish seriously be sure to have at least this armor set and a good weapon. - Weather Stick (Redstone
V
)
This gives you 5 α Sea Creature Chance and a lot of fishing speed during rain, and is incredibly cheap material-wise. - Winter Rod ( Villager)
As your first rod after the basic one, you can get a Winter Rod for 5x Enchanted Emeralds from a trade and use it until you unlock the Challenging Rod.
From now on always use Baits and progress until obtaining a Rod of Legends, most likely fishing during events. Salmon Armor is the best armor before Diver and Shark Scale Armor is very unrealistic without the Builder. You will be missing some sea creature chance but having free rain at all time is so overpowered that fishing is unironically easier than mining and combat.
There are a lot of items that boost α Sea Creature Chance that are unavailable on Stranded, so going over Fishing 30-32 isn't recommended until a new update is released and those missing items are added.
Stranded Lava Fishing[]
To lava fish in Stranded, summon Odger from the Island NPCs Menu to get a Starter Lava Rod. Upon reaching Fishing 27 and Magmafish IV
, you can craft a Magma Rod. Reaching the collection milestone is made easier by Silver Magmafish, which has a 0.2813% chance to be caught from Lava Fishing and increases the Magmafish collection by 80.
Stranded Fishing Pets[]
Fishing Pets
- Blue Whale Pet: Bought from Oringo during Traveling Zoo
- Dolphin Pet: Reaching Sea Creature Milestones
- Flying Fish Pet: Rare drop from Sea Emperors
- Squid Pet: Unknown
- Baby Yeti Pet: Rare drop from Yetis
Stranded Fishing Tips[]
- The Deep Ocean biome (unlocked at Ink Sac
IV
) gives +5 α Sea Creature Chance. - Voiding Sea Creatures doesn't yield Fishing XP or loot.
- Suffocating Sea Creatures only gives items and XP if you hit them.
- Deep Sea Protectors, Water Hydras and many sea creatures can't hit you if you're 2 blocks above them.
- For other creatures like Phantom Fishers, Yetis, Great White Sharks and Grim Reapers, trap them in a 1x1 using an InfiniDirt™ Wand to suffocate them. Remember to give them a hit or you won't receive drops or fishing XP.
- Always use baits. They always pay off, during events (Winter, Fishing Festival, etc.) but also while squid fishing. It's easy to craft them and you can make more while fishing, and doesn't even slow your progression for items like the Bait Ring.
- You can craft about 12 stacks of Carrot Bait and spam use it with a Shredder to max out the ❁ Strength on it pretty quickly.
- Try to use Fish Bait outside of any event as you can use the respective bait depending on the event, as described above.
- You're bound to get a lot of Whale Bait from treasure drops, but it should only be used in certain events you want to prioritize.
- Frosty and Frozen Steves have a small chance to drop Green Gifts, and even more rarely, Red Gifts.
- Using a Night Saver makes grinding for the Bait Ring much easier because of the increased chance to fish up Night Squids.
